School Community Conversation about Raising an Adult

The Bedford Public School system is pleased to introduce our first annual community conversation.  On March 28th at 7:00pm the principals from each school, in conjunction with other faculty members, will facilitate conversations based on the highly acclaimed book, How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims.

The evening will begin with a short presentation of the "big ideas" from the book.  Additionally, there will be time for discourse and sharing in small groups.  Schools, in partnership with families, want to help our students and children grow into productive and resilient adults.  We understand that it takes a proverbial village to make that happen.  We hope to gain an understanding of the pressures our students face, while reflecting upon what is really important for all students as they develop.

A flyer for the event is here:

Refreshments will be provided by BEST, MSPA and BHSPA.  We are fortunate to have the support of all of our parent associations.  As we get closer to the event, I will send out an eventbrite link to reserve spot(s).  The event is free of charge and open to parents/guardians from all of our schools.  However, we will want a count in order for set up and refreshment purposes.

You do not need to read the book in order to attend.  It is a worthwhile read for all parents and guardians.  We are excited to host the event and look forward to collaborating around this important topic.
